Dimensions & care

Full dimensions are listed at the end of the Overview on every product page, taken from the finished piece rather than from a drawing. If a measurement matters for your space, write to us and we will check the actual item before it ships.

Care instructions ship with the product and are printed on the care label where there is one. Solid wood wants a damp cloth and an occasional oil; stone should be sealed once a year; wool and linen prefer a cold wash and drying flat.

Shipping & returns

Shipping is free on every order, with tracking, anywhere in the United States. We do not ship outside the US, so there are no customs charges or import duties on anything you order.

Orders are processed in 1 to 2 business days and most orders placed before 2pm ET leave the same day. Typical delivery is 7 to 15 days from dispatch. Tracking arrives by email as soon as the carrier scans the parcel.

Thirty days to return anything unused and in its original packaging, with all fixings included. We cover the return shipping when an item is faulty, damaged or not what you ordered. If a piece arrives damaged, send a photo of the item and the outer box within 7 days and we ship a replacement without asking for the broken one back.

Outdoor & Garden

The three you actually reach for, in stainless and ash

Trowel, hand fork and transplanter, each about twelve inches, with stainless heads that shrug off a night left out in the border and ash handles balanced to put the weight at the tip.

Garden Tool Set - 3

Stainless heads

No rust after a wet night

Ash handles

Hardwood, weighted forward

Leather loops

Hangs on a nail

Three tools

Trowel, fork, transplanter

THE THREE

Trowel, hand fork, transplanter

Trowel for digging and backfilling. Hand fork for breaking a crusted surface and lifting a weed with its root attached. Transplanter with its narrow blade for a bulb hole or shifting a seedling without destroying the ball. The other seven pieces of a ten-piece set stay in the shed.

BALANCE

Weight at the head, not in the handle

A tool balanced toward the blade drives into packed soil under its own momentum. Handle-heavy tools make you supply the force yourself. Across one afternoon of planting out, that is the difference between a job and a chore.

LEFT OUT OVERNIGHT

Stainless forgives you

Carbon steel heads pit after a single dewy night in a bed. These are stainless, so a rinse and a wipe brings them back. The ash greys slowly if it lives outdoors; a little linseed oil once a season keeps the handles honey coloured.

Left the fork out overnight, no rust

Twice now, in dew, and the stainless heads rinsed clean both times. The transplanter is the one I assumed I would never touch and it has become the tool I grab for bulbs.

Good balance, handles want oiling

You can feel that the weight is at the head, and the trowel bites into packed clay without me leaning on it. The ash handles greyed faster than I expected living outdoors; a wipe of linseed brought them back.

Questions we get about this kind of piece

All FAQs
Can it stay outside all year?

Powder-coated metal and teak handle a full season outdoors without complaint. Through winter, cover the piece or bring the lighter items and cushions inside. What each piece is rated for is on its page.

Will teak go grey?

Yes, and that is normal. Untreated teak weathers to a silver-grey within a season without losing any strength — the colour change is on the surface. Oil it once or twice a season if you would rather keep the honey tone.

Are the outdoor lights safe in rain?

Anything listed for outdoor use is rated for it and the rating is on the page. Solar and battery pieces need no wiring at all; anything that plugs in needs an outdoor-rated socket, not an extension run out through a window.

What happens to cushions if they get wet?

The fabric is water-resistant, not waterproof. A shower runs off and they dry quickly, but a cushion put away damp will mildew from the inside out. Stand them on edge to dry before storing.
