Dimensions & care

Full dimensions are listed at the end of the Overview on every product page, taken from the finished piece rather than from a drawing. If a measurement matters for your space, write to us and we will check the actual item before it ships.

Care instructions ship with the product and are printed on the care label where there is one. Solid wood wants a damp cloth and an occasional oil; stone should be sealed once a year; wool and linen prefer a cold wash and drying flat.

Shipping & returns

Shipping is free on every order, with tracking, anywhere in the United States. We do not ship outside the US, so there are no customs charges or import duties on anything you order.

Orders are processed in 1 to 2 business days and most orders placed before 2pm ET leave the same day. Typical delivery is 7 to 15 days from dispatch. Tracking arrives by email as soon as the carrier scans the parcel.

Thirty days to return anything unused and in its original packaging, with all fixings included. We cover the return shipping when an item is faulty, damaged or not what you ordered. If a piece arrives damaged, send a photo of the item and the outer box within 7 days and we ship a replacement without asking for the broken one back.

Coir, because it is stiff enough to actually take mud off a boot

Thick natural coconut fibre on a rubber backing, 30 by 18 inches, with nothing printed on it. The bristle is the product. There is no joke on it for guests to read.

WHY COIR

Stiffness is the entire job

Coir is coconut husk fibre, and it is stiff in a way woven synthetic pile never is. That stiffness is what breaks dried mud off a tread instead of skimming the top of it. Nylon mats feel softer underfoot and leave most of the dirt for your floor.

KEEP IT COVERED

Natural fibre wants a porch, not a downpour

Coir holds water if it sits in open rain, and saturated fibre packs down and sheds. Under an overhang it will give you years. In a fully exposed doorway it will not — and neither will any other coir mat, whatever the listing says.

CLEANING

Shake it out, do not wash it

Lift it and beat it over a step, or run a vacuum across it on the hard-floor setting. Do not hose it or put it in a machine. Soaking is exactly what makes coir shed loose fibre for weeks afterwards.

Actually scrapes the boots

Mud season here is not a joke and the coir is stiff enough to break dried dirt off the tread rather than smear it around. It shed some loose fibre for the first fortnight and then stopped completely.

No cute saying printed on it

That was honestly the entire reason I ordered it. Plain undyed coir, and 30 by 18 matched my door width almost exactly. It sits under a covered porch, which I gather is the right call for natural fibre.

Questions we get about this kind of piece

All FAQs
Can it stay outside all year?

Powder-coated metal and teak handle a full season outdoors without complaint. Through winter, cover the piece or bring the lighter items and cushions inside. What each piece is rated for is on its page.

Will teak go grey?

Yes, and that is normal. Untreated teak weathers to a silver-grey within a season without losing any strength — the colour change is on the surface. Oil it once or twice a season if you would rather keep the honey tone.

Are the outdoor lights safe in rain?

Anything listed for outdoor use is rated for it and the rating is on the page. Solar and battery pieces need no wiring at all; anything that plugs in needs an outdoor-rated socket, not an extension run out through a window.

What happens to cushions if they get wet?

The fabric is water-resistant, not waterproof. A shower runs off and they dry quickly, but a cushion put away damp will mildew from the inside out. Stand them on edge to dry before storing.
