Dimensions & care

Full dimensions are listed at the end of the Overview on every product page, taken from the finished piece rather than from a drawing. If a measurement matters for your space, write to us and we will check the actual item before it ships.

Care instructions ship with the product and are printed on the care label where there is one. Solid wood wants a damp cloth and an occasional oil; stone should be sealed once a year; wool and linen prefer a cold wash and drying flat.

Shipping & returns

Shipping is free on every order, with tracking, anywhere in the United States. We do not ship outside the US, so there are no customs charges or import duties on anything you order.

Orders are processed in 1 to 2 business days and most orders placed before 2pm ET leave the same day. Typical delivery is 7 to 15 days from dispatch. Tracking arrives by email as soon as the carrier scans the parcel.

Thirty days to return anything unused and in its original packaging, with all fixings included. We cover the return shipping when an item is faulty, damaged or not what you ordered. If a piece arrives damaged, send a photo of the item and the outer box within 7 days and we ship a replacement without asking for the broken one back.

Four mugs, and no two glazes broke the same way

Reactive glaze does as it likes in the kiln — pooling thick where the form dips, pulling thin over the rim. Four mugs come out of the same dip and none of them agree with each other.

Reactive Glaze Mug Set - 4

Reactive glaze

Pools thick, breaks thin

Set of four

No two are alike

Stoneware

Fired dense, holds heat

Low centre

Weight sits in the base

WHAT REACTIVE MEANS

The kiln finishes the design

A reactive glaze carries minerals that move and separate at temperature. It runs off the high points and gathers in the low ones, so one dip in one bucket produces a different surface every single time. Nobody paints these variations on afterwards. They are a record of what the fire did.

WHY THAT IS THE POINT

Four mugs rather than a set of four

Four identical mugs are a set, and you reach for whichever is nearest. Four that share a glaze recipe and disagree about how to wear it are worth looking at on the shelf — and it means the one you prefer is genuinely yours to claim.

THE BODY

Stoneware under the glaze

Stoneware is fired hotter and tighter than earthenware, so the wall does not take coffee into the clay and the rim does not chip the first time it meets a tap. The weight sits low in the base, which is what stops a mug going over when a sleeve catches it.

All four are different and that is the point

One pooled almost black around the base and another broke nearly white over the rim. Same glaze, same dip, and none of them agree. I have claimed the dark one and nobody else is allowed it.

★★★★★

Lovely, but hand wash them

The stoneware is properly heavy and the weight sits low so they do not tip on a desk. I put one through the dishwasher out of habit and the glaze lost a little of its sheen. My fault, it does say hand wash.

Questions we get about this kind of piece

All FAQs
Is it dishwasher and microwave safe?

Stoneware and glass are safe in both. Cast iron, wood and anything with a wooden handle should be washed by hand and dried straight away. Every product page states which applies to that piece.

What is it actually made of?

We name it on every page — stoneware, borosilicate glass, cast iron, acacia or olive wood — instead of writing "ceramic" and leaving it there. Glazes are food-safe and lead-free, and the non-stick coatings are PFOA-free.

Do the pans work on induction?

Cast iron and anything with a magnetic base does. If a page does not mention induction, treat it as gas and electric only, or ask us and we will check the actual base. A non-stick surface lasts for years if you keep it off high heat, out of the dishwasher and away from metal utensils.

Why is it so much cheaper than retail?

This is finished stock from the same production runs that supply larger homeware retailers, bought as a lot and priced without the showroom margin. Same piece, same materials, same factory. When a lot is gone we cannot always reorder it.
