Dimensions & care

Full dimensions are listed at the end of the Overview on every product page, taken from the finished piece rather than from a drawing. If a measurement matters for your space, write to us and we will check the actual item before it ships.

Care instructions ship with the product and are printed on the care label where there is one. Solid wood wants a damp cloth and an occasional oil; stone should be sealed once a year; wool and linen prefer a cold wash and drying flat.

Shipping & returns

Shipping is free on every order, with tracking, anywhere in the United States. We do not ship outside the US, so there are no customs charges or import duties on anything you order.

Orders are processed in 1 to 2 business days and most orders placed before 2pm ET leave the same day. Typical delivery is 7 to 15 days from dispatch. Tracking arrives by email as soon as the carrier scans the parcel.

Thirty days to return anything unused and in its original packaging, with all fixings included. We cover the return shipping when an item is faulty, damaged or not what you ordered. If a piece arrives damaged, send a photo of the item and the outer box within 7 days and we ship a replacement without asking for the broken one back.

Kitchen & Dining

Will not scratch a coating, will not warp in the drawer

Five pieces in olive wood — dense, oily and close-grained, which is precisely why they are still flat next spring when a softer wood would have cupped and started to split.

Olive Wood Utensil Set - 5

Five pieces

The shapes you reach for

Olive wood

Dense, interlocking grain

Coating safe

Never scores nonstick

Stays flat

Does not cup or twist

ON A COATED PAN

The one utensil that costs you nothing

Metal scores a nonstick surface and the pan is finished from that day on. Nylon softens and marks if it rests against a hot rim. Wood does neither — it is softer than the coating, it does not conduct heat back into your hand, and it holds its shape against a hot pan edge.

WHY OLIVE

Density is the entire argument

Olive wood is markedly denser and oilier than beech or bamboo, with a tight interlocking grain. That is what stops a spoon swelling, cupping and eventually splitting after a few months of getting soaked and then drying out in a warm drawer. The figure in it is a bonus, and it is a real one.

CARE

About a minute a month

Hand wash, stand them up to dry, and rub food-safe oil in when the surface starts to look dull. Never the dishwasher: sustained heat and detergent strip the natural oils straight out of olive wood, and stripped olive wood cracks.

Not a mark on my ceramic pan

That was the whole reason I switched. The wood does not score the coating and it does not get hot to hold either, which nylon always did against a pan rim. The grain in the olive wood is genuinely lovely too.

Still dead straight

My old beech spoons cupped and then split inside a year. These have been hand washed and oiled twice and there is no twist in any of the five. Standing them up to dry seems to be the trick.

Questions we get about this kind of piece

All FAQs
Is it dishwasher and microwave safe?

Stoneware and glass are safe in both. Cast iron, wood and anything with a wooden handle should be washed by hand and dried straight away. Every product page states which applies to that piece.

What is it actually made of?

We name it on every page — stoneware, borosilicate glass, cast iron, acacia or olive wood — instead of writing "ceramic" and leaving it there. Glazes are food-safe and lead-free, and the non-stick coatings are PFOA-free.

Do the pans work on induction?

Cast iron and anything with a magnetic base does. If a page does not mention induction, treat it as gas and electric only, or ask us and we will check the actual base. A non-stick surface lasts for years if you keep it off high heat, out of the dishwasher and away from metal utensils.

Why is it so much cheaper than retail?

This is finished stock from the same production runs that supply larger homeware retailers, bought as a lot and priced without the showroom margin. Same piece, same materials, same factory. When a lot is gone we cannot always reorder it.
