Dimensions & care

Full dimensions are listed at the end of the Overview on every product page, taken from the finished piece rather than from a drawing. If a measurement matters for your space, write to us and we will check the actual item before it ships.

Care instructions ship with the product and are printed on the care label where there is one. Solid wood wants a damp cloth and an occasional oil; stone should be sealed once a year; wool and linen prefer a cold wash and drying flat.

Shipping & returns

Shipping is free on every order, with tracking, anywhere in the United States. We do not ship outside the US, so there are no customs charges or import duties on anything you order.

Orders are processed in 1 to 2 business days and most orders placed before 2pm ET leave the same day. Typical delivery is 7 to 15 days from dispatch. Tracking arrives by email as soon as the carrier scans the parcel.

Thirty days to return anything unused and in its original packaging, with all fixings included. We cover the return shipping when an item is faulty, damaged or not what you ordered. If a piece arrives damaged, send a photo of the item and the outer box within 7 days and we ship a replacement without asking for the broken one back.

Canvas on a wood pole, not printed polyester on aluminium

A nine-foot canopy of solution-dyed acrylic canvas in sand, on a pale hardwood pole, with a crank to lift it and a tilt joint to chase the sun across an afternoon.

Canvas Patio Umbrella

9 ft canopy

Covers a six-seat table

Crank and tilt

Follow the sun, seated

Hardwood pole

Warm wood, not aluminium

Cover included

Base sold separately

THE FABRIC

Dyed in the fibre, so one summer does not bleach it

Solution-dyed acrylic carries its pigment inside the yarn rather than printed on the face. Polyester canopies this size fade unevenly within a season and go papery along the folds where they are stressed. This one holds the sand tone, and it is the reason to spend past the supermarket price.

TILT

The sun moves; the shade should too

The crank lifts the canopy one-handed, and the joint above head height tilts it without unwinding anything. At four in the afternoon that is the difference between sitting in shade and dragging the whole table three feet to the left.

ONE HONEST CAVEAT

You do need to buy a base

The pole ships without one, because the right base depends on whether you are freestanding on a deck or dropping through a table hole. Nine feet of canvas catches real wind, so buy something with genuine weight and close the umbrella when you go inside. The storage cover is included.

The tilt is what I use most

Crank it up in the morning and tilt it west around four without getting out of my chair. The canvas is the same sand it was in June and the sun here is brutal on fabric.

Buy a proper base, they are not kidding

Nine feet of canopy catches a lot of wind and the base I already owned was far too light for it. Sorted now. The hardwood pole looks much better than the aluminium one it replaced, and the storage cover was in the box.

Questions we get about this kind of piece

All FAQs
Can it stay outside all year?

Powder-coated metal and teak handle a full season outdoors without complaint. Through winter, cover the piece or bring the lighter items and cushions inside. What each piece is rated for is on its page.

Will teak go grey?

Yes, and that is normal. Untreated teak weathers to a silver-grey within a season without losing any strength — the colour change is on the surface. Oil it once or twice a season if you would rather keep the honey tone.

Are the outdoor lights safe in rain?

Anything listed for outdoor use is rated for it and the rating is on the page. Solar and battery pieces need no wiring at all; anything that plugs in needs an outdoor-rated socket, not an extension run out through a window.

What happens to cushions if they get wet?

The fabric is water-resistant, not waterproof. A shower runs off and they dry quickly, but a cushion put away damp will mildew from the inside out. Stand them on edge to dry before storing.
