Size & fit

Every garment on this site was measured flat, in the size shown, by hand. The tables live on each product page. This page explains how to read them and what to do when you are between sizes.

How to measure yourself

Take a garment you already own and like the fit of, lay it flat, and measure it. Compare those numbers to ours. It is more reliable than measuring your body, because it accounts for how you actually want the thing to sit.

Chest / bust: across the garment from armpit to armpit, then double it.
Waist: across the narrowest point, then double it.
Length: from the highest point of the shoulder straight down to the hem.
Sleeve: from the shoulder seam to the cuff.
Inseam: from the crotch seam to the leg opening.

Between sizes

Outerwear and knitwear — size up. Coats need room for a jumper underneath and knits relax with wear.

Shirts and tailoring — size down. These are cut with ease already; the larger size usually reads sloppy through the shoulder.

Denim — take your usual. Our denim is rigid or low-stretch and does not grow more than half an inch. If it is snug on day one it will be right on day three.

Shoes — take your usual, with two exceptions. Loafers and mules run about half a size large; if you are between, take the smaller. Boots run true but leave room for a thicker sock.

Fit language on the product pages

Close — sits against the body with no extra room.
Regular — the size on the label behaves the way you expect.
Roomy — cut generously on purpose; fits over a layer.
Oversized — deliberately several sizes larger in the body and shoulder. Take your usual size unless you want it even bigger.

If it lands wrong

The first exchange for a different size in the same style is free within 30 days, subject to stock. Write to support@byhavn-co.com with your order number and the size you want. We send a prepaid label and ship the replacement as soon as the carrier scans the original.

Prefer a refund? Same window, same label, no explanation needed — the garment just has to come back unworn with its tags on.
